Synod 2026

Jennifer and Nadia represented St Paul’s at Synod (the primary governing and legislative body of the di0cese) last weekend. A cheeky magpie decided to visit during the Archbishop’s opening address much to everyone’s delight (photo Rev’d Deb Bird).

Reverend Deb Bird provides an excellent summary of Synod (Beyond Unity: A Focus for Integrity) along with a copy of the Rev’d Dr Elizabeth Smith’s sermon (If You Choose) if you’d like to read more.

As part of the agenda, Jennifer proposed an amendment to the Diocesan Council Canon seeking clarifi cation on how proceeds from the disposal of parish or institutional property are handled. The amendment proposed that decisions must not harm the fi nancial viability of the parish or institution, should prioritise long-term fi nancial and missional sustainability, and should include earlier collaboration, written reasons where proposals are rejected, and a review process. Disappointedly, after lengthy discussions, this item was not voted on.

Cursillo Stall at Synod 2026

As usual, Diocesan Servant Community brought colour, life, faith, laughter and hope to the Churchie grounds again on Saturday 27 June.

Nick C and Chris R, along with Greg B (Bundy West) fi elded questions left, right and centre from Synod participants (both Lay and Clergy) and, as usual, ran out of information fl yers!

We were sited between the CMS and the BMF stalls, with MU, Angligreen etc. just a few steps away. The weather was as good as the company.
