A Little Bit About Rev Allan
Reverend Allan writes: When I was asked to write this article to tell parishioners a little bit about myself, I thought I better not go down the “eulogy” route. You know what I mean, “I was born in Brisbane on … etc.” I have always counselled people not to try to get everything into a eulogy because you can’t collapse a life into ten minutes. Of course, they often have no intention of limiting themselves to speaking for only ten minutes!!!
So what I thought to share with you is what is important to me in my life. Firstly, I am fortunate to be able to say that from my earliest memories, I have believed in God and was encouraged to see my life as lived in God’s care. This is nothing to my credit, but something that I express gratitude for each day.
Secondly, family occupies a big part of my life. I was most fortunate to have loving parents who enjoyed 55 years of married life before my father’s death. My siblings and I have maintained a supportive closeness throughout our lives. Now, Michele, my wife of 44 years, and I have great joy in seeing our two sons and our daughter forge their way in adult life. Our three grandchildren are cherries on the top.
I read a lot! Most of my reading is taken up with the Bible and theology books. I like to do light gardening but have to be careful of my back. History and archaeology interest me. I enjoy classical music and popular music of the 1970’s (Nothing of any note has been written since). Sport used to be an interest, but less so since professionalism, commercialisation and gambling have taken over. Not the same as going down to Langlands Park on a Sunday afternoon with my Dad to watch Easts play Valleys, or whoever. A pretty simple life really.
