We Paint The Bayside Orange with Zonta

It was an early start for 14 of us and a few friends at the recent Zonta Paint the Bayside Orange Breakfast raising awareness for action to protect Women and Girls in our area. Our two tables were resplendent in the orange theme and as well as the great breakfast, amazing speakers and good company there was a prize or two had in the raffles. St Paul’s has been a notable presence at this event over the years and each year take home a lot of hope and inspiration that action is occurring to make our community safer for every-body.

MU Member Amanda Moran writes: St Paul’s was well represented this week at the annual Zonta (Brisbane East) Paint the Bayside Orange breakfast. This year marked 10 years of this important opportunity for bayside community groups and local people to gather and raise awareness of the impact of gender based violence.

The event is part of the United Nations 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence which is also strongly supported by Mother’s Union. Accompanying the delicious breakfast was a great presentation by Kirsty Tschirpig and Shaan Ross-smith from the Be There Group. They passionately outlined their group’s really valuable work that provides violence prevention, gender equality, and respectful culture training across Australia and New Zealand through the lens of the active bystander and the Be There framework. There was a strong message that everyone can do something because every action, no matter how small, creates a ripple. They also promoted the free Be There App, the world’s first bystander support tool for domestic, family, and sexual violence.
