Mothers’ Union Provincial Conference
The Mothers’ Union Provincial Conference was held this week at Caboolture, with Manly represented by Bev, Robyn, Kay, Isobel, Lynn and Ailsa.
The conference was opened on Tuesday morning by Bishop Sarah, who introduced the theme “Visible, Articulate, Relevant.” Our fi rst session explored how Mothers’ Union is Visible in our communities, with the Diocesan Presidents sharing examples of the many ways members make a difference. Australian President Dr Robin Ray then challenged us to Articulate who we are and, in just a few sentences, explain what Mothers’ Union means to us. This proved harder than expected, but there was plenty of discussion and sharing of ideas. Tuesday evening brought an inspiring presentation from Bronwyn Fryar on Dreams, encouraging us to think about our hopes and possibilities.
On Wednesday, Sue Cooke from Anglicare Southern Queensland led us in exploring what it means to be Relevant, linking relevance with having a clear purpose and looking at how Mothers’ Union and Anglicare can work together. Later in the morning in a very special session, Rev’d Mamour Kun-Peter spoke about his Faith & Life Journey from the age of 11 which included the incredible story of his escape from war in Sudan. The afternoon was a celebration of 150 years of Mothers’ Union, including a special “visit” from Mary Sumner (see photo >>>), who cut the anniversary cake. We also enjoyed craft, trivia, hymn singing, Happy Hour and a delicious dinner.
The conference concluded on Thursday morning with Holy Communion, presided over by Archbishop Jeremy Greaves.
It was a wonderful few days fi lled with prayer, fellowship, learning, laughter and, of course, good food. There may also have been an attempted jelly bean robbery and an aggressive jam drop incident — but what happens at conference stays at conference!
