Manly State School G Block Official Opening
by Ailsa Gill
Last Sunday, Nick reflected on the Gospel of the day and invited us to consider what we would ask Jesus to do for us, repeating the question Jesus asked the blind men on the road to Jericho. I think everyone who attended the recent ceremony at Manly State School and toured the new building and what was our church property, would agree that our prayers have been answered. As Nick said, Jesus never lets us down. Looking back, we can see that what we asked of Jesus has been granted in ways we could never have imagined.
How amazing it is that the final chapter of our 112-year history at 99 Ernest Street has been written so beautifully. When ownership of the property passed on, the right people were there to transform our church building into a unique and inspiring space for young musicians. On the grounds where our forebears once played tennis, an education centre now provides students with state-of-the-art facilities and magnifi cent views of the bay and the mountains.
We could not have wished for a better outcome. While we still feel the sadness of losing our church home and its many cherished memories, we were deeply touched by the gratitude expressed for the generosity and vision shown in selling the property to the Department of Education. What might have seemed the end of an era has become a gift to future generations.
