Pentecost B – 24th May 2015

I saw a post on Facebook earlier this week referring to a warning, given by Tracey Grimshaw on A Current Affair, regarding the importance of wearing a helmet while horse riding. The warning was given after she suffered a serious fall from a horse.

I didn’t see the program, I don’t like some of the reporting, so sometimes I just turn off… But the warning is wise … Regardless of who gives it.

What I found difficult to understand was the disgusting invective directed at Tracey through FaceBook. I continue to be amazed at the cruel, vindictive, negativity so many people feel it is necessary to spew forth on almost anyone who dares to raise their voice in warning about almost any issue.

I have always believed in the underlying, overall goodness of a humanity, which is only slightly tainted by evil. Given the way some people think and write, I am told that I am wrong.

However, while I am saddened by what I have read, I continue to believe that the power of the Holy Spirit does breathe life, together with wisdom, courage and a longing for God, throughout creation. There are glimmers of hope all around, if we but look for them. Pentecost is the reminder of the power of the Holy Spirit and its myriad manifestations in new and surprising areas of life.

Many Blessings
